Tree Felling - Colchester

Project Overview

We were commissioned to carry out the felling of a dead oak tree located at the entrance to a Tesco store. Given the site operates 24 hours a day and the tree was positioned at the sole access point for both staff and customers, all work had to be scheduled outside of peak operational hours. As a result, the works were carefully planned and executed over two consecutive Sunday evenings to minimise disruption.

Due to the tree’s prominent location on a busy roundabout, a comprehensive traffic management system was implemented to safely divert both pedestrian and vehicular traffic during the operation.

During the first phase of works, our team focused on the delicate dismantling of the crown. Owing to the advanced state of decay, branches were lowered slowly and in a controlled manner to prevent breakage upon impact, which could have caused hazardous debris to scatter.

The second phase involved the removal of the main trunk in larger sections. These were safely dismantled and transported using an Avant loader to a secure holding area, where the timber could be collected and removed at a later date.

The entire operation was conducted with a strong emphasis on safety, efficiency, and minimising impact on the store’s operations and surrounding environment.
